Desktop Computer Case Qdion MATX G-153
As Oscar Wilde used to say: “living in ancient Greece meant not having clothes on”, but we live in a different time! And therefore, having decent clothes for both himself and often the only native creature, that is, a personal computer, is not just desirable, but necessary. And for this, case designers work day and night in order to embellish a PC standing under a table or pushed somewhere further away. Almost no one sees him, like the famous gopher, but he must be dressed (and preferably in the latest fashion). But fashion … it comes and goes, but the computer remains. Man is painted by clothes. Naked people have very little influence in society, or even none at all (Mark Twain). Yes it is. And this is also true for a personal computer. The computer must be dressed, but not in order to be a room decoration. First of all, the computer case must provide: a) protection from dust, as well as from accidental damage to PC components; b) the necessary air circulation in order to maintain the optimum (minimum possible) temperature; c) a place for fixing all components. Everything else is a “free app” to these three core features.
There are a lot of types of cases, but MiniTower, MidiTower and FullTower are mainly used. At the same time, medium-sized cases, that is, MidiTower, are naturally the most common. In this review, we will look at the Qdion case, which has exactly this size. It is almost perfect for both office and home use as a means of communication over the Internet or a media center.
Strict forms – this is what distinguishes the Qdion case from many other similar products that strive to impress the buyer with their pretentiousness. But for the external brilliance of the “box”, which stands under the table and all the beauty of which only cockroaches can appreciate, the buyer will have to pay out of pocket. Is it necessary for those who are limited in means? Therefore, strict forms and a minimum of “embellishments” are exactly what the simplest buyer needs. On the front panel of the Qdion case, a logo is naturally made, as well as a computer on / off button and a block of connectors, which are used by almost everyone: two USB (2.0) connectors, for headphones and a microphone. Moreover, if necessary, USB 2.0 connectors can be replaced with version 3.0 (this is included in the package). The line of these connectors is located in the upper part of the case, which indicates that the manufacturer suggests the main place to “live” the case below, under the table. After all, if it is placed on a table, then the wires for the headset will hang very unaesthetically and often get in the way. The only thing that spoils this solution is the presence of a grate for air intake in the very lower part of the housing, since together with it (air) a lot of dust will also be sucked in, which tends to accumulate on the floor. And therefore, it is strongly recommended that you install a fine grid behind the crate and do not forget to regularly vacuum the PC.
The back of the case is standard. It is assumed not the newfangled lower location of the power supply, but has long become familiar – the upper one. Each of these options has its own advantages and disadvantages, but, in our opinion, for medium-sized cases, it’s still more convenient to use the upper position of the PSU, since its cooler (which is powerful and large in diameter) allows for more efficient “pumping” air from the PC case thereby cooling its components. The air pumped through the upper power supply unit will initially be slightly warmer than the room one and therefore the buyer needs to make sure that he (PSU) operates in a gentle mode most of the time.
Also in the case there are places for the block of input / output connectors, four places for the output of devices connected via PCIe (for example, video cards) and a simple grille for installing an additional fan with a diameter of 80 mm. The buyer should consider that the presence of only four places (for PCIe devices) suggests that not all modern motherboards are suitable for this case.
On the left side of the Qdion case in its lower part there is a grille for air inlet / outlet, which, according to the developers, should improve internal ventilation in the area of devices installed in the PCIe slots.
Four large rubberized legs are standardly located at the bottom of the case, providing the device with the necessary stability.
The interior of the case is made very standard and very simple. The developer did not become zealous and made every effort to minimize both his own and the buyer’s expenses. Unfortunately, such asceticism sometimes "goes sideways" to the consumer. The package bundle is not rich: a set of screws for mounting the motherboard and drives, as well as an additional board with USB 3.0 connectors and corresponding cables, which can be installed instead of the one that is installed by default.
Note that the basket for installing drives is small and has four places. Two sections for installing devices with a size of 5 inches and two – 3.5 inches. Very, very sparse, but the size of the case does not allow to install them no longer harming the internal ventilation and without interfering with modern very long video cards. So the user will have to be content with what is. The bottom 5-inch compartment is designed, according to the developers, for installing a CD or DVD, since there is a special cover (and button) on the front of the case.
At the bottom there is a grill for air intake from the outside, but it would be a good solution to install two things here: a rather small mesh that plays the role of a filter that would cut off most of the dust and the fan. This will significantly improve the heat transfer inside the case, but the user will have to solve these problems on his own.
The front panel of the Qdion computer case is removable. On it are installed: a circuit breaker board; the simplest mechanism for the cover of the CD or DVD compartment and a board with USB connectors, headphones and a microphone. This board can be replaced with the one that is in the kit and is designed for USB 3.0. In its lower part there is a grill made in the form of oblique slots for the flow of air from the outside.
The Qdion computer case comes in a rather austere design. It is perfect for all the needs of a modern office PC. However, to build a universal home computer, you need to consider that not all modern motherboards can be installed in it; and to improve its characteristics it may well be necessary to make additional efforts. However, for some enthusiastic consumers, for whom this is not a problem, but rather an excuse to save, it will have to be completely “in time”. In any case, the user should clearly and clearly imagine why he needs a PC and choose the Qdion computer case, realizing in what configuration and for what needs a computer will be built on its basis.
