Recently, linearly interactive UPSs have been most popular with users, since they are not very expensive, but at the same time they have a simple AVR at the input, which makes it possible to even out the input voltage in several steps, without switching to battery power. This allows, albeit in limited sizes, to stabilize the input voltage by prolonging the battery life while maintaining compactness and without a significant increase in cost. That is why they are widely used both in everyday life and in offices of medium and small companies. Of course, they have their drawbacks, the main of which is the impossibility of using them for equipment that requires a high-quality amplitude and a stable frequency at the input, but they are ideal for a PC, as well as most other computer equipment.

One of the leading manufacturers of uninterruptible power supplies – FSP recently introduced a series of its products under the brand name Qdion. And, of course, we were interested in comparing devices manufactured under the old, familiar to all brands and new. To do this, we took the same device, differing only in name, and consider them closer.

Options devices do not shine with variety. Its basis is a quick start guide and warranty card. But FSP DPV850 and Qdion QDP1000 devices come with software CDs, which, however, can be downloaded from the manufacturer’s website if necessary.

The front panels, as well as the design of the entire case, are pairwise identical. They differ only in the logo at the bottom (FSP or Qdion). The FSP DP1000 and Qdion QDP1000 models have only a power button and three different LED colors. Nothing extra. Everything is designed for the simplest user. Other models of the FSP DPV850 and Qdion QDV850, in addition to the power button, have a small screen with the minimum necessary information displayed on it. The presence of such a screen causes the user a sense of control over the operation of the uninterruptible power supply. In any case, the availability of information is better than its absence.

But the flip sides of these uninterruptible power supplies are different. If the FSP DP1000 model has 4 sockets for connecting computers (or devices with a similar power plug) since they are made according to IEC-320-C13 (3-pin female power connector for AC type with a maximum load current of up to 10 A), then the similar Qdion QDP1000 model also has four CEE 7/4 (Schuko) connectors, colloquially incorrectly called “Euro connectors” and in addition, there is a restart button and a USB connector for remote control.

A similar picture can be observed in another pair of similar UPSs. Despite the fact that both models have the same number of common CEE 7/4 power connectors and there is a restart button, the FSP DPV850 has a USB connector that can be used to take readings and control an uninterruptible power supply.

On the top cover of all the UPS in question there is a sticker similar to that on the packaging box, on which, in fact, the model of the device and the country of manufacture are indicated.

As you can see, the motherboards of the FSP DP1000 and Qdion QDP1000 models are practically no different. The only difference between the internal device of these uninterruptible power supplies is that the Qdion QDP1000 has an additional board on which a USB connector is installed, through which you can obtain the current UPS operation values ​​and remotely control it. Everything else is exactly the same.

This software package is universal, as it is built on client-server technology and is suitable for use in large networks as well as small office ones. Even when connected via USB, installation by involves installation of an agent, which will then be accessible to the entire local network.

Testing

For testing, we used: an adjustable transformer (LATR) and an OLDI Game 760 computer based on the Intel Core-i7 4770K processor and the MSI GTX1060 graphics card, which consumes 85 W in idle mode and 450 W at maximum load. The UPS itself in idle mode consumes about 20 watts, and when charging about 45 watts. As befits linear-interactive type power supplies, the quality of the output signal was almost ideal and did not depend on the magnitude of the load and the degree of discharge of the battery. The Qdion QDV-850 operating time at a 10% load at our stand was 25 minutes. The younger model was able to power the load for 19 minutes. At the same time, I want to note that in the battery mode and the load slightly higher than that declared by the manufacturer, the UPS does not experience any problems and continues to operate normally.

The result of testing the operation of the AVR blocks of these UPSs is presented in Table. 2.

The transition to battery power occurs according to the parameters specified by the manufacturer, which depend on the input voltage and do not depend on the connected load. Unlike most line-interactive models, the AVR voltage boost unit of the FSP / Qdion models is two-stage rather than three-stage. This is likely to reduce production costs, but care must be taken to ensure that the overload does not exceed those recommended by the manufacturer, as the UPS will simply shut down.

findings

Having carefully examined the Qdion and FSP models, we did not notice any significant difference in the paired devices. They are the same both in the design of the case (with minor changes) and in the control board installed inside. Naturally, the quality of the same type of product must be absolutely identical. The only difference is the price. The cost of devices with the brand Qdion is slightly lower than those that have in their name FSP. Uninterruptible power supplies manufactured under the Qdion brand in terms of price / quality ratio are currently one of the most attractive in the Russian market.
